German automaker Audi has launched the S5 Sportback in the country, also making it the first sportback to be offered in its segment.
Audi has been expanding its portfolio in the Indian market and the German automaker has now launched the S5 performance sedan. The S5 is essentially based on the A4 sedan. The four-door vehicle looks like an ordinary Audi car but it packs in some mind-blowing performance with good numbers to boot. It is also claimed to be the first and only sportback in its segment. The vehicle gets very subtle S5 and V6 T badging on the front fenders to distinguish it from the sea of other Audi vehicles.
On the insides, the vehicle gets matte brushed inlays in the otherwise full black cabin. The flat-bottom steering wheel is wrapped in leather and it also gets paddle shifters. The upholstery is offered in Alcantara and S Sport seats are offered as optional extras. The S5 gets Audi Drive Select with the following modes – Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, Efficiency and Individual. The vehicle also gets Audi Parking System Plus with a rearview camera that provides visual and acoustic assistance.
There is also an MMI and infotainment system that packs in a 505 watts Bang & Olufsen audio system. Powering the Audi S5 Sportback is a 3.0-litre TFSI V6 petrol engine that pumps out 333 HP of power and 440 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via quattro and the engine is mated to a 7-speed S-Tronic transmission. The vehicle has an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/hr and it goes from 0-100 km/hr in just 5.1 seconds.
In terms of safety, the Audi S5 Sportback is loaded with the usual kit of 8 airbags, ABS with EBD, sports differential lock, ESC and ASR. The vehicle has been launched in India at a price tag of Rs. 62.95 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Apart from the S5 Sportback, some other performance cars from the Audi stable include the S4, S6, RS5 Coupe, RS6 Avant, RS7 Sportback, R8, R8 Spyder, R8 V10 Plus and R8 LMX.
