Audi S5 Imported To India, Launch In 2015

The Audi S5 is the performance friendly version of the A5 two-door coupe and shares its underpinnings with the A4 four-door saloon.

The Audi S5 uses a 3.0-litre V6 supercharged engine producing 333 HP of power

While Audi India is aggressive on the sales chart with its premium compact and luxury offerings, the German auto giant has limited its range of performance offerings in the country unlike compatriots Mercedes and BMW. However, it now seems the automaker is diverting its attention to the performance space as well and has silently imported the S5 sports coupe in India. A performance two-door version of the A4, the S5 sits below the absolutely maddening RS5 and will be partially affordable compared to the latter when it will be launched next year.

In terms of powetrain, the 2015 Audi S5 uses a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engine that produces 333 HP of power and 440 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed S-Tronic automatic transmission. At 1675 kgs, the S5 comes with an impressive power to weight ratio, while CO2 emissions are restricted to 190 g/km. In terms of performance, the S5 does 0-100 km/hr in 4.9 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/hr. The S5 also gets a sports differential lock that ensures improved handling and optimum levels of traction control.

Visually, the S5 isn’t radically striking from the regular A4. A 2-door version, the model gets a single front grille with adaptive xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, while the rear sports LED tail lights with supercharged badging and dual exhausts that convey the sporty credentials under the hood. In addition, the Audi S5 comes tech loaded including an updated MMI infotainment system with Audi connect, Bang & Olufsen audio system along with three-zone climate control and panoramic sunroof. In terms of safety, the S5 gets airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC, ASR among other features.

Audi India has stated that it plans to launch 10 new models in the country next year which will include a range of facelifts to the existing luxury lineup including the Q3, A6 and new Q7 among others. In the performance space, the Ingolstadt based manufacturer is considering the launch of the R8 LMX edition as well as the new TT sports car and the S5 could also join the sporty lineup next year. To be brought in a CBU, the Audi S5 is a brilliant mix of everyday luxury and performance and will attract those who like to keep things subtle yet powerful.

Audi will bring the S5 as a CBU competing against the BMW M4 & Mercedes C63 AMG
