The new Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron concept has been officially revealed. It is the coupe version of the Q4 e-tron concept previewed earlier.
Set to go into production next year, the Q4 Sportback e-tron concept has a lot of striking features both outside and inside.
Upfront, slim LED headlights are split by a big grille that is completely enclosed. Beneath it sits the bold “e-tron” badge, while there are large air intakes on either side.
The Q4 Sportback e-tron concept is previewed with a raked windscreen, sloping roof, two-tone 22-inch alloy wheels, muscular fenders with two prominent lines on them and side skirts.
The tail light section spans the entire width of the car, while the boot lid incorporates the spoiler. There is a large diffuser, above which sits an e-tron badge illuminated in red.
The interior shows an instrument console angled towards the driver like in traditional BMWs and a steering wheel with a flat bottom.
There are two digital screens, the smaller one for the driver and the bigger 12.3-inch screen for the infotainment system. Below that sit climate control switches, joined by the centre console that is minimalist at best.
Audi has worked well to give the cabin a nice airy feel with the microfibre upholstery, metallic trim and black plexiglas accents.
Powering the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron concept are two electric motors (one on each axle) that are fed by an 82 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
The rear motor produces 201 HP (150 kW) and 310 Nm of torque and is the primary propulsion system. The front motor produces 101 HP (75 kW) and 150 Nm of torque and is used on demand.
The combined output is 302 HP (225 kW) and Audi claims a range of over 450 km per charge.
However, repeated attempts to crack the 0-100 km/hr time of 6.3 seconds will see the range drop significantly. Top speed is limited to 180 km/hr.
The Q4 e-tron concept can be charged at a rate of up to 125 kW. At this rate, 80 percent battery charge can be achieved in a litte more than 30 minutes. Audi is also working on a rear-wheel drive variant with over 500 km range.
When introduced next year, it will become the brand’s seventh electric vehicle after models such as the e-tron and e-tron GT and will be built using the MEB platform.
