Audi has unveiled its youngest SUV, the Q2 at the ongoing Geneva International Motor Show. The bookings will open in Europe by mid-year with launch a couple of months post that.
Compact SUVs have been gaining popularity the world over due to their practicality quotient and looks. For luxury brands, it also lowers the entry barrier for young customers due to the lower price tag. To get a share of the same pie, Audi has taken the covers off its smallest SUV, the Q2 at the Geneva International Motor Show.
One look at the vehicle and it looks like a raised hatchback more than an SUV. The front is unmistakably like other Audis with the big grille covering a large part. The headlamps get a new design for the DRLs. The side and rear profile of the Audi Q2 look rather good with the plastic cladding, contrast coloured C-pillar and cladding on the rear bumper breaking the bulk.
On the inside, the Audi Q2 gets a new dashboard design with the MMI screen being positioned high up. Plenty of customisation options will help the owners choose what best suits their style. It gets most of the features from its elder sibling such as the panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, stop-go function and all the safety features.
Coming to the powertrain options, the Audi Q2 gets six engine options which can be had with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed S-Tronic gearbox. The top-end petrol and diesel variants will get a newer version of the S-Tronic gearbox. All engines come with the choice of an all-wheel drive system or Quattro in Audi terminology. An India launch is expected next year.
The engine power output on the Audi Q2 ranges from 116 BHP to 190 BHP and these are the engine options –
- 1.0-litre TFSI, three-cylinder petrol
- 1.4-litre TFSI, four-cylinder petrol
- 2.0-litre TFSI, four-cylinder petrol
- 1.6-litre TDI, four-cylinder diesel
- 2.0-litre TDI, four-cylinder diesel
