“India is a key strategic market for Audi and we are making a clear long-term statement in the country with ambitious expansion plans,” Mr. Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management (Marketing and Sales), Audi AG, said.
Above statement, what does it say? Audi – the German luxury car maker is looking bullish and ready for its future in India. Audi has established solid ground in last 5 years since its debut. And now they are ready to take a leap ahead of the competition using this solid ground as a launch pad. Till date Audi clocked sales of over 5500+ units in FY 11-12 with one more quarter to go. This has been much more than they expected it to be. Out of this numbers, SUVs shares large chunk with solid products like Q5 and Q7. But considering the volatile economy and its downturn worldwide, Audi thought it would be a good idea to provide more affordable sibling which will carry same genes of Q5 and Q7. As a result of it come out the product Q3 – another weapon in its stable.
Going by the looks, Q3 is just the same Q5 but with deflated dimensions. Rectangular pointed headlights with smart daytime running lamps. Its iconic four ring emblem is located inside huge inverted hexagonal grill. Fog lamps and air vents assisting it to look more beautiful. Sharp shoulder line starts from headlamps and floats into tail lamps at the end. Tail lamps are strikingly similar to its big brothers. Roofline slants gradually in the end after the second row of seats as there is no provision for the third. All in all this makes Q3 to look more peppy, fresh and young.
To power this kid, two motors will do their duty as 2.0-litre TFSI direct-injection petrol engine churning 211PS of power and 300Nm of torque and the other one is the 2.0-litre TDI producing 176PS of power and 380Nm of torque. The later can also be found on various other Audi cars in India – A4, A6 and Q5. In the transmission department engines will be mated to Audi’s S-Tronic twin clutch 7 speed automatic gearbox. 6 speed manual may also come considering it as low cost option.
Luxury and safety features will as per standards of Audi. After all it Audi and it has to live up to the benchmarks of Audi. But some feature may say bye-bye to Q3 to keep the cost low. Keeping prices low is at-most important because there exists its home grown competitor BMW X1 at price of 23 lakhs. Also premium SUV market of India is full of action with Fortuner, CRV, Outlander, Captiva . So Audi may be aiming to take head on with those vehicles also. Let see how Audi Q3 will make its fortune in sizzling hot Automobile industry of our India.
Audi India also showcased the A3 e-tron, A7, A8L, S6, Q5, Q7 and R8 Spyder 5.2 at the 2012 Auto Expo.
