The new Audi A8L Security comes with VR9 level of bullet and blast protection compared to the VR7 level of the predecessor due to the use of special aluminium alloys, aramide fabric and hot-formed steel armour.
Among the very few actual launches at the 2016 Auto Expo was the Audi A8L Security which is a bullet and blast proof secured version of the automaker’s flagship A8L and it was launched at a starting price of Rs. 9.15 crore (ex-showroom Delhi and Mumbai).
The new Audi A8L Security comes with VR9 level of bullet and blast protection compared to VR7 level of the previous generation as the new one is built using aramide fabric, hot-formed steel armour and aluminium alloys which also makes the luxury sedan lighter, however it can still handle a payload of 600 kgs.
The 2016 Audi A8L Security is offered with two engines that includes a 4.0-litre, TFSi, bi-turbo engine that produces 435 HP and 600 Nm of torque and another is a W12, naturally aspirated engine that produces 500 HP and 625 Nm of torque while the top-speed is limited to 210 km/hr.
Standard features on the Audi A8L Security includes an armoured communication box in the luggage compartment, a permanent telephone, intercom to communicate with people outside the car using a speaker housed in the front grille, selective door locking, Audi’s patented emergency exit system that blows off the door with the push of a sealed button, fire extinguisher activated by a button or heat sensors and many more.
Other additional features include data logger, radio start system that helps the driver to start the car from a distance, radio communication, fresh air system, etc. Another interesting feature in the secured sedan is that it can travel up to 100 kms on completely deflated flat tyres with a top-speed of 80 km/hr.
