Audi A6 e-tron revealed in multiple trims, range up to 756 km on single charge

Audi has officially unveiled the new A6 e-tron, available in both Sportback and Avant body styles. This marks the second model from Audi to utilise the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, following the Q6 e-tron SUV, which debuted earlier this year. The PPE platform, co-developed with Porsche, is set to be a cornerstone for future electric vehicles from the Volkswagen Group.

Design and Styling

The A6 e-tron adheres to Audi’s new naming convention, where even numbers denote electric vehicles, distinguishing it as an electric counterpart to the recently introduced A5 sedan. Its design, influenced by the A6 e-tron Sportback and Avant concepts from 2021 and 2022, is understated yet sophisticated.

Notable features include a split headlamp design with customisable upper LED DRLs and Matrix headlamps, a gloss black fascia with a sealed-off trapezoidal grille and sporty inserts distinguishing the S6 variants. The sleek Sportback design aids aerodynamic efficiency, boasting a drag coefficient of just 0.21cd, the lowest for any Audi to date.

The vehicle’s side profile is accentuated by smooth curves and contrasting cladding, while the rear features a continuous light bar and advanced second-generation OLED tail lights. An illuminated four-ring Audi logo adds a unique touch. The A6 e-tron measures 4928 mm in length, 1923 mm in width, 1527 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2946 mm, providing ample interior space and a practical 502-litre boot. Standard wheel sizes start at 19 inches, with options up to 21 inches.

Interior and Features

Inside, the A6 e-tron mirrors the Q6 e-tron’s advanced electronic architecture, featuring a single curved display integrating an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch central infotainment screen. A separate 10.9-inch display serves the front passenger. The system runs on an Android-based OS and includes a head-up display with augmented reality features. A standout is the ambient lighting strip, which serves multiple functions, including indicating charging status and displaying animations.

The cabin is notably leather-free, with a mix of fabric, satin silver and gloss black finishes. Key features include a Bang & Olufsen 20-speaker sound system, a full suite of advanced driver-assistance systems, 360-degree camera, panoramic glass roof and a new touch-based control panel for various functions.

Performance and Specifications

The Audi A6 e-tron range offers three initial variants: a base rear-wheel-drive model with 282 HP, Performance RWD version with 362 HP and Quattro all-wheel-drive model with 422 HP. The high-performance S6 e-tron models deliver up to 543 HP with launch control. The AWD variants feature a front asynchronous motor and a rear permanent magnet synchronous motor, enabling a 0-100 km/hr sprint in as little as 3.9 seconds for the S6 e-tron.

Two battery options are available: an 83kWh unit offering a WLTP range of 610 km for the base variant and a 100kWh unit providing between 647 km and 756 km depending on the model. The larger battery supports fast charging up to 270kW, enabling a 10 to 80 percent charge in just 21 minutes.

Market Launch and Pricing

The Audi A6 e-tron is set to enter the European market in early 2025, with a starting price of around €75,000. The high-performance S6 e-tron will be priced at around €100,000. The Indian market can expect the A6 e-tron to arrive by mid-2025, where it will compete with the BMW i5 among other electric luxury sedans.
