Aston Martin has launched the DBX luxury SUV with a mammoth price tag of Rs. 3.82 crores (before options, ex-showroom, Delhi) in India.
DBX is the brand’s first-ever SUV that, its maker says has the soul of a sports car while also being capable off-road.
The brand is known for making some stunning cars over the years, and the DBX utilises elements like the “DB” radiator grille, latest lighting units, a curvy body with strong character lines and a tailgate that draws inspiration from the Vantage.
It is an elegant car, no doubt, but one that has not lost sight of aerodynamics. For example, the front DRLs have an integrated air duct, while at the back the spoiler has been designed in such a way that air is guided over the rear windscreen to keep it clean at all times.
Inside, its business as usual, with the interior having a handcrafted feel, because it is. Aston has made judicious use of metal, glass and wood throughout the cabin.
Space is ample for both front and rear seat passengers, while the seats themselves are trimmed in full grain leather. A panoramic sunroof is present while the headlining and electric roof blind are available in Alcantara finish.
Features such as a 10.25-inch TFT touchscreen, 12.3-inch TFT screen for the driver, Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree camera system and ambient lighting come as standard. It is practical too with 632 litres of boot space and 40:20:40 split folding rear seats.
Developed under Aston Martin’s “Second Century Plan”, the DBX is built using the firm’s new dedicated SUV platform at its manufacturing facility in St Athan, Wales. However, despite its structure being made using bonded aluminium to make it both light and stiff, the end product does come in at 2245 kg.
Powered by a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 engine that puts out 550 PS and 700 NM of torque, the DBX can do the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 4.5 seconds and go on to a top speed of 291 km/hr.
This motor is coupled with a 9-speed torque converter gearbox which sends the engine’s power to all 4-wheels. The all-wheel-drive system has active differentials, while the luxury car also has an active exhaust system and cylinder deactivation.
In addition, the Aston Martin DBX price gets customers an adaptive triple volume air suspension combined with a 48 V electric Anti-Roll Control (eARC) system and electronic adaptive dampers.
Despite coming from a brand known to make fast GT cars, the DBX, being an SUV, can handle a wide range of terrain and comes with the latest safety systems as well.
Those who want to further personalise the car can choose any of the accessory packages available and also make use of the services offered by the firm’s “Q” division.
