We help you find out which compact sedan suits you the best, Aspire vs Dzire vs Amaze vs Ameo.
The Indian car buyers are now preferring compact sedans for their practicality. Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo, Maruti Dzire and the recently launched Ford Aspire take on each other for the top spot in the market. Let’s find out which compact sedan is the best amongst these.
Design & Looks – In terms of looks, all the four cars have a modern design with their revised styling. The Ford Aspire is leaned towards sporty style now, while the 4th gen Maruti Dzire gets a completely new body design along with a lot of curves. On the other hand, Honda Amaze is a very catchy compact sedan with elegant design and a no-nonsense look. The Ameo gets the same look as Polo and Vento continuing the stylish yet graceful design. All the cars run on 15-inch wheels, while you can go for 16-inch alloy wheels with the Ameo Highline Plus version.
Dimensions – All the cars offer the same length, but the wheelbase is more on the Ford Aspire than Ameo and Amaze followed by the Dzire. But don’t worry, even with the smallest wheelbase in the Maruti has given a fair legroom to the Dzire. The Honda Amaze offers the biggest boot space of 420-litres, while the Volkswagen Ameo gets the smallest boot of 330-litres. All these cars offer almost the same ground clearance but the Ford Aspire tops here with 174 mm. Honda Amaze has the shortest turning radius of 4.7 metres.
Feature – All the cars here get auto climate control but only the Dzire and Ameo get rear AC vents. Except for the Ameo, all other cars get a push-start button with keyless entry. All four cars are equipped with a reverse parking camera with sensors, steering mounted audio controls, touchscreen display, digital clock and electric adjustable ORVMs. Dzire gets projector headlamps which none of the competitor cars offer. They all get a single 12V power outlet, while the Dzire offers two power outlets. The Aspire and Amaze get cruise control which the Dzire and Ameo misses out on.
In terms of safety, the Aspire gets six airbags, while the other cars only get dual front airbags with ABS. The Ameo misses out on EBD while the other three of them get EBD and the Maruti Dzire gets brake assist as well. All cars come with speed sensing door locking system with central lock.
Engine – Each of the cars have petrol as well as diesel engine options. The petrol engine on the Ford Aspire is the most powerful one having a 1.2-litre which produces 95 BHP whereas Amaze produce 89 BHP and Dzire produces 82 BHP. The Ameo petrol has the least powered engine with its 1.2-litre which produces 74 BHP. All the cars are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. You also get the auto transmission in both petrol and diesel motor of Dzire and Amaze, while Aspire offers auto transmission in petrol variants and the Ameo in diesel variants.
When it comes to diesel motor, the Volkswagen Ameo has the most powerful engine with its 1.5-litre which produces 109 BHP whereas Aspire and Amaze both produce 99 BHP. The diesel Dzire gets a 1.3-litre engine which produces 74 BHP.
The Dzire petrol offers a fuel efficiency of 22 km/l (ARAI) and the diesel motor offers a fuel efficiency of 28.4 km/l (ARAI) which is the best in this segment.
Verdict – All cars have their own share of pros and cons here. The Amaze, Dzire and Aspire are good looking cars while the Ameo has the same design lines as Polo and Vento. If you want a driver’s car, then the Honda Amaze and Ford Aspire are the two good options for you. The steering response from these cars is brilliant. Maruti has done a good job on Dzire’s ride quality than the previous model. If you have the safety on priority then it has to be the Ford Aspire who gets many features which is absent in other cars. But if you want a car with low price, better comfort and fuel efficiency, the Maruti Dzire is the one.
