Army-spec Tata Safari Storme deliveries commence, cars spotted on transport truck.
The Indian Army had given a contract of supplying over 3000 units of the Safari Storme to Tata Motors. The homegrown automaker had been testing the army-spec Safari since some time but now it seems that deliveries of the vehicle to the Indian Army have started. A truck carrying several units of the Safari Storme in an olive green paint shade has been spotted.
In terms of styling, the army-spec Tata Safari Storme gets this very military olive green colour with even the alloy wheels painted in the same olive green colour. Besides, the SUV also gets auxiliary lights, bonnet mounted antenna, pintle hook at the rear to tow other vehicles and carriages and a jerrycan as well. Interior remains similar to the regular Safari Storme. The army-spec vehicle gets a beige dashboard with flexible map lights at the front and rear. Power steering and air conditioner are offered as standard and so are dual front airbags.
The army-spec Tata Safari Storme is powered by a 2.2-litre Varicor diesel engine but with retuned power and torque figures, which aren’t known at the moment. The regular Safari Storme makes 154 HP of power and 400 Nm of torque. The oil-burner comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox with a torque-on-demand transfer case. The vehicle will gradually replace the ageing fleet of Maruti Gypsy, Hindustan Ambassador and Mahindra MM550 DXB and serve as the staff car in the Indian Army.
