Aprilia has unveiled the Tuono V4 X, a track-only hypernaked that has ballistic stats to boast and an ultra short production run to make it one among the rarest of the rarest vehicles.
The “X” version of the Tuono uses the 1077cc V4 engine of the RSV4 1100 Factory and here it makes 221 HP of max power. This power has been attained due to boffins from Aprilia Racing doing their magic. In particular, they use the same air filter as the one they use on the MotoGP bike.
However, it is not the colossal power that is only worthy of grabbing headlines. Rather, that part is done better by the weight and (maybe not by the) price.
Harnessing what it has learnt from its MotoGP experience so far, Aprilia has stripped the bike of excess weight it could find. Carbon fibre has been used extensively, the rims are forged magnesium items, the exhaust is made out of titanium by Akrapovic and even the silencer is in carbon.
Further, the fuel cap, clutch and brake levers, crankcase guard and footrests have all been created using billet aluminium to attain the 166 kg (dry) weight figure.
A significant amount of power and the not-so-insignificant weight reduction aside, the bike has more performance parts to make it a true high handlebar racing machine.
Chief of which that grab attention are the carbon wings inspired from the firm’s MotoGP programme. Other important bits include semi-active suspension from Öhlins with Smart EC 2.0 peripherals, an up/down quickshifter, while the braking is done by Brembo GP4-MS calipers that clamp onto T-Drive discs.
Being the product of the Noale-based firm’s Factory Works programme, the Aprilia Tuono V4 X sports a “Bol d’Or” look, a homage to the French endurance race where Aprilia entered an RSV 1000 R Factory in 2006.
Limited to 10 units, thus the name, the numbered series was put on sale for 34,900 euros (Rs. 30.57 lakhs) exclusively on the Aprilia website recently. Needless to say all 10 units got sold within the blink of an eye.
