Aprilia Launches The Tuono 457, Priced At Rs. 3.95 Lakh. It Competes With KTM 390 Duke, Yamaha MT-03
Aprilia has launched the Tuono 457 in India! The Tuono 457 is based on the RS457 but in street naked form factor. This makes the Tuono more suitable for daily commutes as compared to the RS457, designed for more aggressive use. Not to mention, it also makes the Tuono 457 a more affordable option to get behind the 457cc Twin Cylinder engine!
Styling
Aprilia has taken a different route to styling compared to the previous Tuono 660 and V4 in the global markets. There are centre-set LED headlights with LED DRLs on the sides. The Tuono comes without any large fairings and offers a charming and aggressive look. The Tuono 457 will be available in two colours: Piranha Red and Puma Grey.
Engine
The Tuono is powered by the beloved 457cc Parallel Twin Engine, which produces 46.8 HP and 43.5 Nm of torque. The 6-speed transmission is available with a Bidirectional Quickshifter as an option. Interestingly, the fuel tank capacity was reduced from 13-litres in the RS457 to 12.7-litres despite the same 175 kg weight as before.
Suspension
The Tuono has Upside Down Forks up front and an adjustable monoshock suspension in the back. Regarding differences with the RS457, the sprocket is slightly smaller and shorter, gearing in the Tuono. Additionally, the rider triangle is also more upright thanks to the handlebar design, allowing for more comfort on roads.
Features & Market Positioning
In terms of features, the Tuono gets the same suite of traction control, dual channel switchable ABS, Bluetooth connectivity and a 5-inch TFT Display, as seen on the RS457.
The Tuono 457 is priced at Rs. 3.95 Lakh (ex-showroom), which makes it significantly cheaper than the RS457. While the Tuono may not be as committed as the RS, it should be the better of the two on daily commutes.
Outlook
The Tuono will compete with the KTM 390 Duke and Yamaha MT-03, which is a stiff competition to go against. However, the ultimate conclusion should remain under wraps until test rides happen. It is important to keep in mind that the RS457 was revered for its suspension setup so the Tuono has big shoes to fill in terms of feel and feedback. The Tuono 457 is open for bookings, with deliveries starting in March.
