The Aprilia SR 150 is a 150cc engined sporty scooter from the Italian manufacturer Piaggio. The scooter was showcased at the recently concluded 2016 Auto Expo.
The gearless scooter revolution is credited with making it easier for segments like women and college goers, giving them a chance to have their own set of wheels for easy city commute. But the sales charts are filled with boring commuter scooters which do not have enough grunt to move out of their own way! But Piaggio is a company which has decided to pour some Italian flair into this dull market and introduce the Aprilia brand by kick-starting the production of the Aprilia SR 150 sports scooter in India.
The Aprilia SR 150 sports scooter has entered production at the company’s Baramati plant and the launch of the scooter is expected by the end of August this year. The SR 150 is anticipated to be priced at a premium at Rs. 90,000/-, making it the most expensive scooter in the country today. The Aprilia SR 150 was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo amid rave reviews due to its sporty looks and a long feature list.
The Aprilia SR 150 has a 154.4cc air-cooled single-cylinder carbureted engine with three valves, which makes 12 PS of power and is mated to a CVT transmission. At the front is a standard telescopic suspension, while the rear gets a single-side coilspring, along with disc brakes in the front and drums at the rear. Other notable features include 14-inch black alloy wheels, 220 mm front disc brake, performance tyres and sporty body graphics. The scooter will be offered in two colours – white and black.
The Italian scooter will be a welcome addition to the Piaggio line-up which is famous for its trendy Vespa range of scooters. The scooter, with its highly stylized twin-headlamps element and catchy graphics, is targeted at those customers who want a little more fun out of their two wheels but at the same time do not want to give up the comfort and convenience of a gearless scooter.
