The Aprilia SR 150 has been officially launched in India, priced at Rs. 65,000/-. Termed as the ‘country’s first sporty crossover 150cc gearless bike’, the Aprilia SR 150 is a fun scooter for enthusiasts.
Piaggio took 2-wheeler enthusiasts in India by storm at the 2016 Auto Expo where they showcased the Aprilia SR 150. After having announced its price earlier and rolling out the scooter from its Baramati plant, Piaggio has launched the Aprilia SR 150 in India at a grand event held at Hard Rock cafe in Mumbai. Lorenzo Savadori was the guest of honour at the launch event. For those who don’t know him, the Italian is is the 2015 World Champion of Superstock bike racing and currently competes in Superbike World Championship with the Aprilia team.
The Aprilia SR 150 is powered by a 150cc, single-cylinder engine that develops 11.4 BHP of power at 6750 RPM and 11.4 Nm of torque at 5000 RPM, this is the same motor that does duty on the Vespa 150 but has been tuned to suit the SR 150. It is matched to a CVT gearbox. Using 32 mm telescopic forks at the front and hydraulic single arm at the rear, the Aprilia SR 150 employs a 220 mm disc at the front and 150 mm drum at the rear while the 14-inch tyres get 5-spoke alloy wheels.
Piaggio has priced the SR 150 aggressively at Rs. 65,000/- (ex-showroom) while ordering it on ecommerce website Paytm results in a cashback of Rs. 2000/-, effectively making the price Rs. 63,000/-. The scooter comes with practical features like a hook for securing bags near the floor board and USB port provision under the seat. Specially designed Aprilia merchandise can also be bought by owners through the Piaggio dealership network.
Piaggio is betting big on the Aprilia SR 150 and is manufacturing the scooter with high local content at it Baramati production facility in Maharashtra. The same factory also produces Vespa scooters. The Italian company will start deliveries of the Aprilia SR 150 later this month.
