Piaggio has developed an all-new 160cc maxi-scooter for the Indian market that will be launched early next year.
Currently, the Suzuki Burgman is the only maxi scooter on sale in India. Piaggio is coming with a more powerful alternative to the Burgman 125. This scooter will be launched under the Aprilia brand name in India and is currently in the final stages of its production cycle.
The upcoming scooter from Aprilia has been fully developed in Italy, with some inputs taken from Indian engineers. The company has done the majority of its styling work keeping the Indian consumers in mind. Taking inspiration from the Suzuki Burgman Street 125 that created its own brand identity in the Indian 2-wheeler market, Aprilia plans to offer the same practicality and experience with this 160cc maxi-scooter.
Piaggio is expected to go with the same 155cc motor that currently powers the SR 150 and the Vespa scooters. But we expect the engine to be tuned differently so that it will adhere to the BS6 norms when launched in the early stages of next year. Aprilia will place the scooter under the 160cc branding as the 150cc tag has already been taken by the SR 150 and Vespa scooters.
