Acura/Honda showcased the NSX Concept II at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. The first version, the Acura NSX Concept, was showcased last year at the same venue, and now the company has further developed the NSX closer to production with subtle changes to the exterior as well as a full production ready interior. Acura/Honda say that the NSX will be launched and sales will start by late 2014 or early 2015 and it will be sold as Acura in USA and Honda elsewhere in the world.
The Acura NSX Concept II has a few changes as compared to last year’s version. This extremely angular and aggressive car gets a front grille which is slightly modified to make it less prominent than before. The front bumper and grille gets a new carbon fibre structure and new clear lens turn indicators. The side vents on front and rear bumpers too get carbon fibre with inserts of the same on the wheels and carbon fibre diffuser at the rear. The tail lamps get LED strips in the centre.
The interior of the sports car is bathed in leather and Alcantara with carbon fibre trims on the dashboard, centre console as well as door panels. The interior is very simplistic and clean which is devoid of buttons and controls. The NSX gets a Simple Sports Interphase which controls all the functions on the elevated centre console. Acura say this has been purposely done to maximize driver comfort and give a pleasurable driving experience which is most important inside the car.
The NSX Concept II uses a special hybrid drive train with 4-wheel drive system called the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. There are 3 electric motors, one motor is connected to the NSX’s V6 engine, providing electric assist and two other motors are placed on each of the front wheels driving them. The gearbox used by the NSX is an all new Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT). Honda has no plans to launch the Acura brand in India in the near future, nor does the company plan to bring in the NSX to the sub-continent.
