The Punto and Avventura Abarth models were spotted with the T-Jet badge and will reportedly make around 135 BHP of power from a turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol engine
The Fiat Punto Evo is one of the few driver focused products in the country boasting of a brilliant chassis and handling capabilities that unfortunately does not get the right kind of attention it deserves. With the engines always seeming a tad bit sluggish, Fiat India is all set to revise that issue by bringing the Abarth versions of the Punto and Avventura models in the country, much to the excitement of the hatchback’s followers. Gearing up for launch later this year, the Punto Evo and Avventura were recently spotted in Pune in their Abarth guise in a production ready avatar.
Spotted with all the bells, the Fiat Abarth Punto gets the very cool Scorpio claw 16-inch alloy wheels, Abarth side decals and the T-Jet badge on the boot-lid. The Abarth Avventura test mule though was void of any exterior alterations. Fiat has also not lowered the ground clearance on both models either, which we reckon would be due to the Indian road conditions. Furthermore, the more powerful Punto gets an all black finished cabin, while the Avventura gets a dual-tone dashboard finished with grey inserts. The latter also gets brown and beige upholstered seats with the ‘Avventura’ moniker.
Coming to the heart of the matter, the India spec Abarth Punto Evo and Avventura will draw power from a turbocharged 1.4-litre T-Jet petrol engine that reportedly has been beefed up to produce around 135 PS of power. The engine will continue with the existing 5-speed manual gearbox that is likely to receive upgrades to meet the power overload. Fiat is certainly betting big on pleasing the enthusiasts this time and we couldn’t be happier. A launch can be expected during the festive season and will see the Punto battle it with the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI.
