Mahindra is not really known for having well designed SUVs, not until the recent XUV500 at least. However, the company is investing on budding designers to bring a new design language on its next generation of vehicles like the Komodo IED SUV concept study that could change the way Mahindra vehicles will look in the future. The Komodo IED Concept is the brain child of aspiring designer Makrand Patil and a graduate from IED Torino who completed the study in collaboration with Mahindra.
The Mahindra Komodo Concept has a car like stature coupled with SUV prowess. Unlike other SUVs, the Komodo sports a sharp design language. Being an Indian himself, Mr. Patil made sure that the Komodo concept catered to the Indian roads and driving conditions. The concept sports all the brand attributes of being a Mahindra, which is evident with the name ending with an ‘‘O’ in the end. Keeping the Komodo in sync with Mahindra’s DNA, the car can be used on smooth tarmac as well as can wade in deep waters easily.
The concept is a result of four months of hard work and is targeted towards the young and old alike. Special attention has been given to the off-road abilities of the Komodo that a whole family can enjoy. Considering that the Komodo concept is a design study, the powertrain and other specifications are not available.
The Komodo concept holds the lamp to light the way for Mahindra’s future vehicles and should certainly be put into consideration. The concept focuses on urban mobility with the suave design language showcased. Just for kicks, what if this could be the next generation Scorpio or a completely new SUV. Now that’s a Mahindra that will be truly global. Your thoughts?
Update – The design seems to be a copy of the Local Motors SUV and everything that has been done is purely on computers, there is nothing on the road yet and the car being wind tunnel tested is the Rally Fighter from Local Motors, not the Komodo.
