Mahindra showcased a new customized ‘Stinger’ variant of its best selling SUV Bolero at the 2014 Auto Expo. The Bolero Stinger is based on the stock Bolero and gets exterior and mechanical upgrades to make it more apt for off-roading. The specially customised Bolero Stinger was a part of the ‘Live Young, Live Free Zone’ as a treat for off-roading enthusiasts and was completely done by Mahindra Customisation.
On the outset, the front facia has been completely revised and gets an all new grille, headlight design and bumper. The conventional grille from the stock Bolero is now replaced with a 5-slat vertical teeth grille and a stylish scoop bezel. The headlight now features multi-pod with projector headlamps, squared off indicator lights and over-head amber lights. The bumper has been completely redesigned and gets integrated fog lamps. Mahindra has also added a skid plate to the under belly. The sides get extra plastic cladding around the door hinges, handles and the glasshouse area. The wheel arches also get plastic cladding that integrates with the running board enhancing the off-road look on the SUV. The car gets 16-inch tyres wrapped on 5-spoke chrome alloys.
The rear on the other hand has been comprehensively changed, with the rear body shell cut off at the third row making way for a cargo bay. The spare tyre is mounted on the tail gate gets plastic cladding protection. The bumper has also been redesigned and tail lights feature LEDs. The vehicle also gets twin exhaust tips. The interior gets contemporary features like a touchscreen infotainment system, home theatre like audio visuals, mood lighting, heads up display and independent TFT screens for the rear seats. The interiors get a two-tone finish with brushed aluminium accents while the upholstery is done up in genuine leather, adding a premium touch. Mahindra has also provided map and bottle holders on the doors.
The Bolero Stinger is powered by a 2523cc m2DiCR diesel engine producing 62.8 BHP of power and 195 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, same as the stock Bolero. Mahindra has also added a snorkel kit to enhance its water wading capabilities and a custom built rear roll cage to make it rigid and stable for off-road use. Mahindra provides in-house customisation for its products that makes a lot of spares and accessories available for off-roading without having your warranty annulled.
