Hero MotoCorp has showcased two of its newest scooters at the 2014 Auto Expo and they are Leap and Dash. The Hero Leap is all set to be India’s first hybrid scooter and is powered by a lithium-ion battery and an electric traction motor which gives out 10.73 BHP of power. Hero has plonked in a 124cc engine which uses belt drive, direct from the motor to the rear wheel. The headlight of the Hero Leap has a projector with LEDs, position lamp and stop lamp. The ground clearance of this scooter is 140 mm and it weighs 140 kgs.
The fuel tank capacity on the Hero Leap is just 3-litres. The tyre size for the Hero Leap is 110/70 at the front and 120/70 at the rear and the tyres are wrapped around 13-inch and 11-inch alloys at the front and rear respectively. The design of the Leap is very different compared to the other scooters available in the market today and hence it might not appeal to some buyers. The entire frame is made of steel and the battery and motor are placed in a way which felicitates better centre of gravity. The Hero Leap uses fuel injection and regenerative braking. The combined range on petrol and electric modes is around 340 kms.
Coming to the Hero Dash, this is a 110cc scooter aimed mainly at male buyers. It is powered by a 4-stroke, force air-cooled engine. The 111cc engine produces 8.44 BHP of power and 9.4 Nm of torque. The ground clearance of the Dash is 155 mm and it weighs 110 kgs. The maximum fuel tank capacity is 6.0-litres. The fuel lid is key-operated and the instrument cluster features side stand warning and service reminder. The Hero Dash will compete with the TVS Jupiter and Honda Activa which has been the market king since a long time.
