Mercedes-Benz has just launch the M Guard in India, which is the armored version of the M-Class. The vehicle is priced at Rs. 2.49 crore. Mercedes Guard models come with advanced protection features like special steel plates and windows made from a high-strength toughened glass. Mercedes-Benz Guard vehicles also go through a number of ballistic tests and crash tests and yet they look just like a regular vehicle from the outside.
The Mercedes M Guard meets the requirements of protection level VR4 and it is a bullet-proof vehicle. The safety certification of the M Guard was performed by Ulm-based Ballistics bureau. The vehicle can protect its occupants from fire and blasts caused by hand grenades. An armored floor is optional with the M Guard which too can resist blasts. Since these features increase the weight of the M Guard significantly, the automaker has provided the AIRMATIC suspension as standard along with Adaptive Damper System. The vehicle also comes with torsion bars at the rear axle which help improve the overall stability while taking fast turns.
Mercedes-Benz is providing the M Guard with 20-inch run-flat tyres which can be used for a distance of 30 km at a maximum speed of 80 km/hr even when after getting punctured. These run-flats are wrapped around 5-spoke lightweight AMG wheels. The Mercedes-Benz M Guard is available in two variants – ML350 BlueTec Guard and ML500 BlueTec Guard. The ML350 comes with a 3.0-litre engine producing 258 HP of power and 620 Nm of torque while the ML500 comes with a 4.6-litre engine producing 408 HP of power and 600 Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to a 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission.
