Early last year, everybody was talking about the facelifted Santa Fe hitting Indian shores by mid-2013. We were the first to report that Hyundai will not launch the Santa Fe facelift in the Indian market in 2013 as the SUV was turning out to be too expensive. The company has been testing the new Santa Fe on Indian roads since quite some time now and has aggressively worked on localising content to reach an attractive price point. Hyundai locally assembles its flagship Indian vehicle, the Santa Fe, bring it down via the CKD route.
The Hyundai Santa Fe will be launched in India on 6th February 2014 at the upcoming Auto Expo. This SUV will compete with the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in the domestic market. Hyundai plans to under-cut Toyota with the pricing of the new Santa Fe. The Korean automaker updated the car last year, giving it a host of changes which helped transform the vehicle completely. The Santa Fe’s popularity has been soaring the world over with the vehicle getting the accolade for being the safest large 4×4, beating even the Range Rover.
The 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe will be offered in India with a 2.2-litre diesel engine which outputs 200 PS of power and 431 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/hr sprint in 9.4 seconds. Hyundai will offer the Santa Fe in India with only one engine option, coupled to both 2-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, as well as manual and automatic transmissions. The 7-seater SUV gets a host of features which its immediate rivals lack, a tried and tested formula by Hyundai to boost the value proposition of its products.
