Lamborghini has a rich legacy of being one of the most outlandish automotive companies with their cars. Taking it a step further, the company commemorating its 50 years of existence this year showcased the Veneno Roadster earlier this year. The company has officially unveiled the Veneno Roadster on the Italian naval aircraft carrier ‘Nave Cavour’ exclusively in the presence of Italian authorities, clients, VIPs and the media in Abu Dhabi.
The Lamborghini Veneno Roadster was unveiled on the deck of the 240 metre ship while docked in Abu Dhabi’s Mina Zayed port and in its form looked at home with all the jet fighters and the airstrip. The exotic car maker has a key fan following in the Middle-East, which is one of the largest markets for the company. The hyper car will be limited to 9 units that will be built throughout 2014 and will cost 3.3 million Euros (Rs. 27 crores). To put things into perspective that’s what 11 Aventadors would cost.
The Veneno Roadster is the open-top version of the Veneno coupe that was unveiled earlier this year and like its sibling carries the Lamborghini DNA forward with the absolute extreme design and maddening power output. The Veneno Roadster is powered by a V12 engine displacing 6.5-litres. The maximum output is rated at 750 HP and the vehicle accelerates from 0-100 km/hr in just 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 355 km/hr.
Power is transferred to all four wheels by the ISR single clutch automated-manual transmission with five modes. The car also features a racing chassis with pushrod suspension and horizontal spring/damper units to keep it planted on tarmac at triple digit speeds. Yes, the Veneno Roadster is legally allowed on public roads.
The Veneno Roadster features the aerodynamics of the racing prototype and the whole design has been laid out for perfect airflow and down-force. The exclusive alloy wheels also provide aerodynamic functionality with the carbon fibre ring around the wheels aids in delivery of additional cooling to the carbon ceramic brakes. The rear wing has been designed to be adjustable to ensure optimum airflow between the rear wing and the rear diffuser. The car provides extremely low wind resistance.
Lamborghini has built the Veneno Roadster around a monocoque design made from Carbon-Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) and the use of CFRP continues on the exterior parts as well. The seats on the car are made from Lamborghini’s patented forged composite while the entire cockpit, part of seats and headliner are made of carbon-fibre carbon skin which has managed to help save extensive amounts of weight on the Veneno Roadster. The car tips the scales at 1490 kgs that makes for a power to weight ratio of just 1.99 kg/hp. To keep the driver safe at those insane speeds, the car packs in a host of goodies from airbags to adapted ESP handling system and meets all the worldwide norms of registration.
The Veneno Roadster showcased at the event was in a fiery Rosso Veneno (red) paint colour, but the car can be individualised as per the customer’s personal preferences. The hyper car was conceived on the Aventador’s platform and commemorates Lamborghini’s 50 glorious years of making extreme automobiles. In today’s times when companies are downsizing their powerplants and design elements, the engineers at Lamborghini just choose to do the exact opposite, the reason why we see another 50 years of legacy in the making.
