While Audi and BMW are busy announcing price hikes for year 2014, Mercedes-Benz is doing something constructive, like launching new models without scaring customers silly with hikes of 5 and 10 percent respectively. Mercedes-Benz has gone ahead and launched another car in the Indian market and this time it’s the SLK 55 AMG, a 2-door convertible. Mercedes already sells the SLK 350 in the Indian market but the SLK 55 AMG is way more brutal, offering significantly more performance. The company plans to target young customers with this sporty offering.
Powering the Mercedes SLK 55 AMG is a 5.5-litre, V8 engine which comes sans turbochargers, outputting 421 HP of power at 6800 RPM and 540 Nm of torque at 4500 RPM. 0-100 km/hr is done and dusted in just 4.6 seconds and the naturally aspirated motor is coupled to an AMG 7-speed transmission. Top speed is limited to 250 km/hr. The SLK 55 AMG also gets an AMG body kit, AMG Sports suspension, designo leather upholstery with contrast stitching and 18-inch, 5-spoke AMG wheels. The vehicle is brought in to India via the CBU route, thereby attracting hefty duties.
Mercedes-Benz has priced the SLK 55 AMG at Rs. 1,25,90,000/- (ex-showroom, Delhi). The SLK 55 gets AMG High Performance Braking System, AMG Performance Steering Wheel, AMG Direct-Steer system and AMG rear-axle differential locks. Safety features include PRE SAFE, ADAPTIVE BRAKE, ASR, ABS, Active Bonnet, PARKTRONIC and ATTENTION ASSIST. The vehicle also gets Magic Sky Control for the panoramic roof, bi-xenon headlights, 4-way lumbar support, etc. Just in case you are hunting for the mileage, it’s 11.9 km/l under ideal test conditions.
