Mercedes-Benz has revealed the concept GLA 45 AMG, a high-performance compact crossover, at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. The car shares space with the SLS AMG GT Final Edition, S65 AMG and the AMG Vision Gran Turismo. The GLA shares its platform with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class. Though this vehicle is currently just for show, we expect Mercedes-Benz to produce something similar in the near future.
The Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG is powered by the same 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine present on the A 45 AMG and CLA 45 AMG. This turbocharged engine dubbed as the world’s most powerful 4-cylinder production engine produces 355 HP of power and 436 Nm of torque between 2500-5000 RPM, mated to AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed sports transmission. This combination ensures a stellar 0-100 km/hr sprint in under 5 seconds. Thanks to the AMG 4MATIC All Wheel Drive system, the performance is nothing short of breath taking
The concept showcased at the Los Angeles Auto Show features forged wheels wearing 255/35 R21 tyres as well as wings and spoilers. The wheels are painted matte black with red stripes while the massive brake discs are gripped by red callipers. AMG says that the number “45” on the doors add to the motor racing appeal on this car though we imagine this won’t feature on the production version.
Silver grey and red foil wraps on the bonnet, sides, C-pillar and rear end are complemented by red highlights on the grille, door mirrors, diffuser insert and rear wing. Twin rectangular exhaust outlets on each side adds to the sporty character of the GLA. This car will be directly targeted at young urban customers who want something fast and practical.
