You read it first on MotorBeam. Bajaj Auto will showcase a new cruiser motorcycle concept at the upcoming 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi. The said cruiser bike will go on sale in 2015 and is expected to be positioned above the Avenger. Bajaj Auto has stopped development on the Avenger quite a while back and the company doesn’t have plans to update the motorcycle in the near future. Instead a new model will grace Bajaj showrooms as the company looks at tapping the growing cruiser market in our country.
While details on the Bajaj cruiser motorcycle remain unavailable at the moment, we expect the bike to be revolutionary in many ways. In the past couple of years, Bajaj Auto has developed quite a few interesting technologies which are likely to be carried by this cruiser motorcycle. One can expect a liquid-cooled engine with fuel-injection, producing around 25 BHP of power. The bike could share mechanical bits with the Pulsar 200 NS, helping Bajaj Auto price the vehicle very competitively.
With Bajaj Auto increasing focus on the cruiser segment, Royal Enfield has big reasons to worry. The Avenger does decent numbers in spite of no marketing and lack of updates. With a revolutionary product, Bajaj Auto could boost demand in the cruiser segment. Currently Royal Enfield is the only player in the Rs. 1.5-2 lakh cruiser space while Hyosung will join in next year with the GV250 Aquila. At the higher end, we have Harley-Davidson and Triumph who offer cruiser options. The Bajaj cruiser is expected to be priced around Rs. 1.3 lakhs.
