Mercedes-Benz is all set to launch its latest sporty offering, the SLK 55 AMG in India on 2nd December. The AMG kit is going to provide the SLK an increased level of sportiness, better performance and a high oomph factor. Currently Mercedes offers the SLK with a 3.5-litre V6 engine which is priced at Rs. 68.46 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The automaker’s current AMG offerings in India are the C63 AMG, E63 AMG, SLS AMG, SLS AMG Roadster and the G63 AMG. With time, almost all AMG cars will be on sale in India.
Under the hood, the Mercedes SLK 55 AMG has a really powerful 5.5-litre V8 engine that is capable of producing 422 HP of power and 540 Nm of torque. Acceleration will be amazingly quick with the car going from 0-100 km/hr in about 4.6 seconds! The V8 powerplant is mated to a 7-Speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT transmission which also features manual paddle shifters. This motor is naturally aspirated unlike the mill doing duty in the E63 AMG which uses twin-turbochargers.
Few of the highlights of the SLK 55 AMG include –
- AMG Body Styling
- AMG Sports Suspension
- Ventilated disc brakes
- 18-inch 5-spoke AMG alloy wheels
- Nappa leather upholstery with contrast stitching
The Mercedes SLK 55 AMG costs $68,925 in global markets and that translates to around Rs. 43.40 lakhs but since this car is going to be imported to India as a CBU, the price will get increased significantly owing to the high taxes on imported vehicles. The SLK 55 AMG’s main competitor is the Porsche Boxster S which is priced at Rs. 92.28 lakhs (ex-showroom, Maharashtra).
