We all know that cell phones have the fastest launch rate in the market and next to them are automobiles. Now days we see some or the other company launching some or the other models in short spans. Some of them launch a new series while some launch facelifts. The rate of change in design has become an essential factor for survival in the auto sector. But there is a company which doesn’t follow the trend. It’s none other than the super luxury Rolls-Royce. The company has a reason to follow its own lane.
In terms of a common man, I would like to ask you a question. How many times in your lifespan would you buy a Maruti Suzuki, Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota or any other car? Probably two, three; if you are earning more than enough then five times. How many times would you buy a Rolls-Royce? The answer is zero. You must probably be a billionaire to have one.
I would like to ask you another question. What is the expected life span of a normal passenger segment car? Probably seven to ten years that too with proper maintenance. What is the expected life span of a Rolls-Royce? It’s more than double of a normal car; approximately seventeen years.
Rolls-Royce has done the math well and has spoken about the future of the existing Phantom Series II to end the speculation that was prevailing in the market doubting its future. If one is paying Rs. 7 crore for a piece of beauty then he/she certainly doesn’t want it to be out-dated in a couple of years. That is one of the reason Rolls-Royce announced that the Phantom Series II would be sitting on the throne for this decade. The Phantom series will last in the market at least till 2020 which is seventeen years after its launch.
The Phantom series was launched in 2003, it underwent up-gradation in 2012 with major changes including an 8-speed automatic transmission, improved audio system, body clusters and seat designs. It is too early to comment on the next generation of the Rolls-Royce Phantom but the vehicle is likely to share its platform with the seventh generation BMW 7-Series. For now let the Emperor rule his kingdom.
