Ford is currently busy testing the next generation Figo and we have already seen many spyshots of the camouflaged hatchback testing in Brazil. It was also speculated that the American automaker is developing a sedan version of the Figo. Recently the Figo based sedan has been spotted testing in full camouflage that confirms about its introduction next year in the global market. The spyshots of the test mule reveal neat proportions of the compact sedan that doesn’t look as compact as the Maruti Swift DZire or Honda Amaze. In fact, it looks more than 4 metres long like the Chevrolet Sail sedan.
If Ford plans an India specific sub-4 metre Figo sedan, it would be a great threat to the Maruti Swift DZire, Honda Amaze and the soon to be launched Hyundai Grand i10 sedan. The styling of the next generation Figo hasn’t been revealed yet but it is expected to carry a new aggressive design language seen on the recent Mondeo. Similar styling is expected with the Figo sedan, having a feature loaded cabin like the EcoSport. When launched in India, the Figo sedan is expected to replace the Ford Classic, which is the previous generation model of the Fiesta.
Ford will be retaining the existing Figo platform for the next generation model and the same will be used for its sedan version. The carmaker will modify the platform using thin and high-strength steel throughout to keep it light and strong. The new offerings are said to be powered by the state of the art 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbo petrol engine and the 1.5-litre diesel engine. Ford is targeting immense localisation for the upcoming products in India to have competitive pricing.
