Triumph motorcycles has confirmed of an upcoming 250cc bike that will be manufactured in India from 2015. The bike’s sketch has been released at the 2013 EICMA Motorcycle Show. Triumph during its presentation at the show announced about a new small displacement sports bike in the 250cc segment which will be manufactured in India. The sports bike has been christened as the Triumph Daytona 250 and features a full fairing sports bike appearance as seen in the sketch. The engine is likely to output 30 BHP of power.
The Triumph Daytona 250 is essentially made to look like a baby 675 in the rendering. Triumph stated that the bike will have its global debut in 2015 and is slated to be exported from India to other markets. Apart from the Daytona 250, Triumph has also been testing a naked 250cc motorcycle featuring the design theme of the Street Triple that was spotted testing earlier this year. Both the bikes may share the same mechanical specifications, thus we may be looking at two variants in the 250cc segment that will be launched in 2015. The bikes will be manufactured at Triumph’s facility to be completed by 2015 at Narasapura, near Bangalore.
Expect the Daytona 250 and naked 250 sports bike to be heavily localised carrying a competitive price tag when launched in India. These will be Triumph’s entry level bikes in India, and also the volume builders for the iconic British brand. The bikes will be competing against the upcoming Honda CBR300R, KTM Duke 390, Hyosung GT250R and Kawasaki Ninja 300 which are established products in the segment. The sub-500c segment has picked up some heat and may see more motorcycles coming out from other manufacturers. BMW with its tie-up with TVS also plans to venture into this segment in the future.
