TVS will launch a new scooter on the 16th of September 2013. The said scooter has been on test for quite sometime now and has quite a lot of resemblance to the TVS Wego. The launch will take place in Chennai and deliveries will start by the end of the month. The upcoming TVS scooter will help the company lift its volumes in the competitive scooter segment, which is currently dominated by Honda. The lack of updates to TVS’ scooter lineup has led to a loss in market share as rivals have been updating their offerings continuously.
It’s no doubt that TVS have used the Wego as the platform to develop this new scooter, as the company intends to lure male buyers to the brand. The Scooty is targeted at females, while the Wego is a tad small for male riders. Thus the bigger Wego is sure to please male buyers. Expect the company to offer all the tech it does with the Wego, such as body balance and front disc brake (as an option). The fuel filler is placed at the rear, making it convenient to refill petrol without having to open the seat.
The upcoming TVS scooter will be called Jupiter with power coming from the same 110cc engine which powers the Wego. The 125cc TVS scooter is still a few months away. The single-cylinder aluminium unit produces 8 BHP of power and 8 Nm of torque, coupled to a V-Matic transmission. With a bigger body, the new TVS scooter should be able to accommodate a full sized helmet under the seat. The Wego has brilliant dynamics and the upcoming offering should retain the good riding characteristics. Expect the new scooter to be priced around Rs. 50,000/-,
