Fiat is celebrates thirty years of success of the Panda 4×4 and commemorates the event by launching a limited Antartica Edition. First introduced in 1983, the Fiat Panda was and is still the only 4×4 in the city car segment. Over the course of thirty years, Fiat has sold over 4 lakh units of the Panda 4×4 alone, while the overall sales scale as high as 6.5 million units. The compact 4×4 city car is in the third generation and has seen various limited editions too. The Antartica edition is based on the record selling 4×4 Rock trim version.
The Fiat Panda 4×4 Antartica will be offered in dual-tone bodywork, white body with black roof and black cladding around the vehicle and a little bit of orange detailing. The interiors are finished in grey and orange upholstery. More special series characteristics include 15-inch diamond finish alloy wheels, fog lights and privacy windows. The power is derived from the tried and tested 1.3-litre Multijet II, 75 BHP diesel engine and another 0.9-litre, 85 BHP TwinAir Turbo petrol engine. The engines are equipped with Start&Stop system.
The Antartica edition of the Fiat Panda will feature specially developed Snow Flake tyres which are as good on dirt tracks and roads as on snow. These tyres add more traction to the car. The Fiat Panda 4×4 by default comes equipped with torque on demand drive system, Electronic Stability Control (ECS) and Electronic Locking Differential (ELD). The Panda 4×4 Antartica edition will debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. For now, Fiat plans only the European continents for the sale of the limited edition car and the Panda should reach European showrooms by the end of this year.
