Ford has hit a jackpot with the EcoSport. Prior to the launch of the vehicle, critics didn’t spare the American automaker by forecasting the vehicle would be a flop, due to the high delay of more than 18 months. However Ford has really shocked everyone with the pricing of the EcoSport, that nobody even recollects the massive delay in launch. The compact SUV from the Detroit based automaker is seeing overwhelming response in India, so much that Ford has stopped taking bookings for select variants.
The rush at Ford dealerships easily outpaces the footfalls experienced by Maruti Suzuki dealers, such is the buzz surrounding the EcoSport. Some buyers are also ready to pay a premium to get their vehicle quickly, we have heard offers of Rs. 2 lakhs for priority delivery. Almost all dealers have received upwards of 150 bookings, which is record profit for them. Some variants have higher demand than others and thus Ford has instructed dealers not to take bookings for those variants, as the delivery time stretches to more than six months.
Bookings for the petrol powered EcoSport is still open but the Titanium option pack variant is not available for orders currently. The Titanium option pack variant is only offered on the EcoBoost powered EcoSport and not on the 1.5-litre petrol engine. The diesel engine is offered in all trim levels and dealers have stopped taking bookings for the diesel model altogether, irrespective of the variant. Diesel engined models always outpace the petrol version and in the case of Ford, the ratio is as much as 70:30. Till date Ford has put around 10,000 units of the EcoSport on Indian roads.
