Audi has launched the 2013 RS5 Coupe in India, priced at Rs. 95.28 lakhs (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). The Audi RS5 is already on sale in India since 2011 and the launch today is an upgrade over the previous model. The updated Audi RS5 was unveiled last year and is brought in via the CBU route. While the old Audi RS5 was priced at Rs. 76 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) at the time of launch in 2011, the new model is significantly more expensive, owing to the increase in CBU duties. The engine is the same unit as before without any increase in output.
The Audi RS5 Coupe is powered by a 4163cc naturally aspirated petrol engine. This 4.2-litre V8 motor produces 450 HP of power at 8250 RPM and 430 Nm of torque between 4000-6000 RPM. The 0-100 km/hr sprint takes 4.5 seconds while the top speed is limited to 250 km/hr. This engine is mated to a 7-speed S tronic dual clutch transmission with power being channelled to all-wheels via Audi’s famed quattro system.
So what is new in the 2013 Audi RS5? While the mechnicals remain the same, Audi has updated the design of the vehicle giving it new accents, new headlights (Xenon plus headlights), updated rear bumper, new tail lights with LEDs, etc which makes it looks ever sharper than before. While the top speed is limited, the German automaker will lift it to 280 km/hr upon request. On the inside, the Audi RS5 gets instrument cluster with lap timer and oil temperature gauge, power adjustable S sport seats, interior with matt brushed aluminium inlays and redesigned controls with minor changes to the dashboard and steering wheel.
These changes to the Audi RS5 make the vehicle fresh although the performance is the same, which going by the numbers is quite exciting. Audi has put forth an impressive growth of 21%. The company is the leader in the sports car segment with the S4, TT, R8 and RS5 Coupe doing well in the market. Audi will launch the S6 in India on 12th July 2013. The automaker will continue to launch products to cement its position at the top of the luxury car market.
