Suzuki is planning to launch a new variant of its popular hatchback, Swift with 4×4 drivetrain in Russia. Suzuki introduced the Swift 4X4 last year in Italy, named as ‘Swift 4X4 Outdoor’ and the company has been getting positive response from the market. The 4×4 variant is an all-wheel drive system that doesn’t feature an extra lever to power all four wheels. The Swift in Russia is powered by a 1.2-litre, K12B series, petrol engine that produces a power output of 94 BHP.
The 5-speed manual gearbox comes as standard and the buyers can also opt for a 4-speed automatic transmission in the market. The 4×4 drivetrain will be introduced with the same engine and transmission options. Suzuki has been selling the Swift from a long time in Russia with several added features in comparison to the India spec model. However, a few features are essential for driving the vehicle in freezing atmosphere of the country.
The feature list includes heated seats, electrically heated ORVMs, hill assist system and 7 airbags (side, curtain and knee airbag for driver). The Swift has received 5 star rating from EuroNCAP. Suzuki offers six passenger vehicles in Russia – Swift, Kizashi, famous off-roader Jimny, Splash which is named as Ritz in India, Grand Vitara and the SX4. The Swift 4×4 will be launched in Russia before the end of the year and the SX4 is also anticipated to get the 4×4 drivetrain post the launch of the Swift.
