Honda has launched the 2013 Edition of the Dream Yuga commuter motorcycle, which has been given Honda Eco Technology (HET). The company claims a mileage of 74 km/l, which is a 2 km/l increase over the previous non HET model. However in real riding conditions, one can expect not more than 62 km/l from the Dream Yuga, which is powered by a 110cc single-cylinder engine producing 8.5 BHP of power and 8.91 Nm of torque, mated to a 4-speed gearbox. The Dream Yuga weighs 108 kgs and Honda is pinning its hopes on this motorcycle to boost volumes.
Honda has not increased the prices of the 2013 Dream Yuga and the motorcycle is priced at Rs. 45,101/- (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is offered in 3 varaints and tubeless tyres are offered as an option. The Dream Yuga is available in 5 colours – grey, red, black, brown and silver. Honda has sold 3 lakh units of the Dream Yuga in the first year of launch. We can expect the company to give HET to its other commuter focussed models in the near future. The company recently launched the Dream Neo in the same segment.

Honda is trying its level best to snatch the numero uno spot from its erstwhile partner, Hero MotoCorp. Majority of sales in the Indian 2-wheeler market come from volume products like 100cc motorcycles. Thus Honda is increasingly focussing on this segment and plans to overtake both Bajaj Auto and Hero MotoCorp by 2016. The Japanese 2-wheeler giant has an aggressive product strategy and launches new products every quarter.
