Did you know that the Mahindra Bolero is the largest selling utility vehicle in India, constantly occupying the fifth position in overall car sales in India every month. While the Bolero sold 9780 units last month, Tata Motors managed to sell only 1133 units of the Sumo (Gold and Grande combined). Now Tata Motors has facelifted the Sumo Gold with the launch of the Model Year 2013 car. The company has made it very clear that the Sumo Gold is a better vehicle than the Mahindra Bolero. So what makes them say so?
Tata Motors offers more features on the Sumo Gold. The updated model has a dual AC, audio system with Bluetooth and USB connectivity, wooden finish centre console with mobile holder, one touch down power windows, adjustable lumbar support, internally adjustable outside rear view mirrors. All this is absent on the Mahindra Bolero and the Sumo has a turning radius of only 5-metres while the Bolero has a turning radius of 5.8-metres. The 2013 Tata Sumo Gold gets a smoother transmission and softened suspension for better ride quality. The vehicle also gets exterior updates including a new grille, new headlight design, new body graphics and new wheel caps.
Tata Motors has also given the Sumo Gold tubeless tyres along with refining the 3.0-litre CR4 diesel engine for better mileage. This engine is BS4 compliant and produces 85 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque, while returning a mileage of 15.3 km/l. The BS3 engined Sumo Gold uses a 3.0-litre TCIC engine to produce 70 PS of power and 223 Nm of torque. The Sumo Gold is available in 5 varaints – GX, FX, EX, LX and CX and is priced from Rs. 5.83 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The vehicle is offered with a 3-year, 1-lakh kms warranty and is offered in four colours namely red, white silver and grey.
