Mahindra will be launching the hatchback avatar of the Verito sedan, named as Verito Vibe on 5th June 2013. To avail excise duty benefits and price the hatchback aggressively, Mahindra has trimmed the Verito Vibe under 4-metres length. With huge amount of space on offer at a lower price point and with a diesel-only version, Mahindra is betting big on the hatchback for large volumes and increase in market share. Recently, the Verito Vibe was spotted at a dealership as the company starts dispatching the vehicle.
The exteriors of the Mahindra Verito Vibe hatchback look similar up front as the sedan, apart from the redesigned grille. The rear end is where the designers have concentrated the most, boasting a sporty tail gate with huge vertical tail lamp cluster (yesteryears design, you bet). On the inside, the hatchback will share most of the elements form the sedan to keep the costs under control. The Verito Vibe is said to have best in class cabin space. Mahindra will be offering the Vibe hatchback with a diesel engine only, as they don’t have a compact petrol engine at present.
The Mahindra Verito Vibe hatchback will use a Renault sourced 1.5-litre k9k turbo diesel engine, which can also be seen on the Verito sedan. The 1.5-litre k9k diesel engine produces a maximum power of 65 BHP and 160 Nm of peak torque. The engine returns a fuel efficiency of 20.8 km/l on the Verito sedan and we expect the Verito Vibe to be even more frugal. Mahindra intends to pitch it up against the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the pricing is expected to start under Rs. 5 lakhs.
Mahindra’s sub 4-metre category currently consists of the Quanto and will now get added by the Verito Vibe, followed by the S101 compact SUV next year.
