Renault launched the Scala X-tronic with the CVT automatic transmission in January this year claiming better fuel efficiency than its manual version. The Scala’s affordable sibling Sunny (in terms of price positioning between Nissan and Renault) is now ready to roll out with a CVT transmission in a few weeks time. The price for the Nissan Sunny XL CVT has been revealed, which retails at Rs. 8,92,559/- which is significantly less, when compared to the Renault Scala RXZ X-tronic CVT which comes with a price tag of Rs. 9,83,576 (all prices ex-showroom, Mumbai).
The Nissan Sunny CVT has already arrived at Nissan dealerships and the bookings for the car have commenced. The deliveries will take place after the official launch. The Sunny XL CVT is likely to have keyless entry with push button start and similar fully loaded convenience and safety features. As seen on the Scala CVT, the Sunny CVT will only be available with the petrol version featuring the 1.5-litre motor producing a maximum power of 101 PS with a peak torque of 134 Nm. Just like the Scala CVT, the Sunny CVT will also return better fuel efficiency figures compared to the 5-speed manual version of the Sunny.
The Renault Scala X-tronic CVT was launched with two variants namely RXL and RXZ but in the case of Nissan, the Sunny CVT will only be launched with the XL variant. Other variants will be launched depending on the demand of the customers. The X-tronic CVT automatic transmission is ideal for city traffic conditions as the cogs shift smoothly and the engine is quite frugal, when revved hard the engine does get noisy. The Nissan Sunny CVT will compete with the likes of petrol automatics namely Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Skoda Rapid, Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Vento.
