Expensive super cars are like fairy tales for a common man. When someone buys them, it does become a tale to be talked about. So this time the prince of this story is our own Race 2 villain, John Abraham. His latest acquisition of the Lamborghini Gallardo has become the talk of the town. John recently bought a black Gallardo from Lamborghini Mumbai. This piece of style and speed would have costed him around Rs. 3.4 crores (on-road, Mumbai). John who already owns an Audi Q7 is a SUV lover and also has a Maruti Gypsy among his possessions.
This is not the first time John Abraham has been in the news for owning expensive metal on wheels. Last October, John gifted his sister-in-law a Q3. In 2011, being an avid Audi fan he got himself a Q7 and entered the list of Audi owners among the celebs. John is a brand ambassador for Audi and thus his choice of buying a Lamborghini seems quite obvious. Lamborghini is owned by Audi, which is in turn owned by Volkswagen. Since the Gallardo and R8 share the same engines, we are surprised he didn’t opt for the latter, which is cheaper too.
If you think only 4-wheels can grab John’s attention then you are definitely mistaken as this macho man also owns the Yamaha R1 and Yamaha MT-01. So will this new entry in his stable take away all his attention or will the Dhoom star still crave for the hair raising experience offered by his superbikes? For the record, the Yamaha R1 accelerates much faster than the Lamborghini Gallardo, taking around 3 seconds to reach 100 km/hr while the Gallardo takes upwards of 3.5 seconds (depending on the engine).
Everyone is aware about Lamborghini’s plans to bring in the Gallardo replacement next year, so why did John Abraham not wait? The recent hike in imported car duties will make machines like the Lamborghini Gallardo costlier by around Rs. 1. crore. Thus buying one right now makes sense before prices are revised upwards in April. Also John will be able to save the amount he has spent on the Gallardo over the years by claiming depreciation on his supercar, there reducing his tax liability. Now you know the reason why so many high-end cars are usually driven by chauffeurs and the owners don’t really care about their vehicles.
