Rolls-Royce has unveiled the much awaited Wraith Coupe at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. This first ever performance coupe from the British super luxury car maker is based on the Ghost sedan’s underpinnings with a beautiful swooping body, a powerful engine, a sportier drive while keeping the occupants in royal luxury and superior comfort, surrounded by wood and leather.
The Rolls-Royce Wraith Coupe is powered by a tuned 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine producing 624 HP of power and 800 Nm torque. The power figure is up by 61 HP compared to the engine from the Ghost. A 0 to 100 km/hr sprint is dealt with in just 4.6 seconds which is about 0.3 seconds faster than the Ghost sedan, but the top speed figure is still a suspense. The massive V12 is mated to an 8-speed ZF transmission which powers the rear wheels.
The Rolls-Royce Wraith Coupe measures a massive 5269 mm in length, 1947 mm in width and 1507 mm in height with a wheelbase of 3112 mm. The Wraith coupe is 130 mm shorter than the Ghost sedan. This performance coupe weighs in at a rather heavy 2360 kgs. The interior is a typical Rolls-Royce which pampers the four occupants and keeps them in tremendous comfort. The dashboard is similar to the Ghost with lot of exquisite wood veneer but what sets the Wraith coupe apart is the ‘Starlight Headliner’, which has 1340 fiber-optic lamps which give the interior an impression of a ‘glittering, starry night sky.’
The Rolls-Royce Wraith Coupe is expected to be a performance luxury limo, so it has been given special re-tuned sporty suspension which minimizes body roll and improves feedback while cornering. The steering is light at low speeds but weighs up at speed for a sportier experience. A new Satellite Aided Transmission (SAT) makes its first appearance in the Wraith Coupe which analyses GPS data and driving style to select the most appropriate gear for the terrain that lays ahead.
The Rolls-Royce Wraith Coupe will go on sale by the end of 2013. The price in Europe is about Rs. 1.75 crore. It is expected that the cost of the Wraith Coupe will vary in every country due to the taxes and duties. The Wraith will be unveiled in India this July.
