A few days back KTM held an Orange Day in Mumbai where Amit Nandi (Business Head, KTM India) announced that the Duke 390 is coming around June 2013 with an on-road price of 2.30 – 2.50 lakhs. Now spy shots have emerged from what looks like a warehouse of parts (read Trellis frame) with a Duke 390 standing without any body panels. Nitin Mane has shared the picture which seems to have been shot at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan facility, revealing a few details about the upcoming KTM 390 Duke.
Since there is little difference between the Duke 200 and the Duke 390, it can become difficult to identify either motorcycles. You can see the larger radiator, a much beefy engine and the much awaited ABS which can only be seen at the rear wheel. If you notice a small wire floating over the caliper and the steel braided line has a cover to which the ABS wire is stringed too. Simple observations such as orange wheels and frame with new body graphics will further help it distinguish it from the Duke 200.
Since the bike in the spy shot doesn’t have seats and a fuel tank nothing can be said about them, as these two things need to be improved on the Duke. A larger capacity fuel tank and a much comfortable seat for the pillion is what the Duke lacks but is not going to get as the specification sheet of the 390 Duke is already out. Other than the engine, other specs remain almost identical to the Duke 200.
The KTM Duke 390 on paper is already crowned as the king of the segment with twice the horsepower, torque and displacement. The 390 Duke is powered by a 375cc single-cylinder engine which produces 44 HP at 9500 RPM and 35 Nm at 7250 RPM. This engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission. The Duke 390 only weighs 11 kgs more than the Duke 200, which like we said, looks like a mean machine. The 390 Duke is getting ready to blow its competitors away when it comes to performance and pricing. Meanwhile feast your eyes on the KTM 390 Duke in the pictures below.
