Ford had launched its 3-door Ka hatchback in 1996. The compact hatchback was known for its fresh design and city driving practicality. Currently, the Ford Ka is in its second generation and there are no plans to bring in a third generation model. The American car manufacturer is planning to axe the Ka and is working on a new hatchback (Value-B) which will replace both the Ka and Figo. This hatchback can be termed as the next-generation Figo and is expected to be introduced later this year. A sedan version of the next generation Figo is also being planned, which could replace the Classic.
The next generation Ford Figo will have a fresh design with sharp angles and creases. The front end will feature some design elements taken from the new Fusion and the rear will get a boomerang shaped tail lamp cluster. The interiors of the car will also be getting major changes with latest set of features and tidbits. We can expect Ford to offer the new Figo and its sedan in the Indian market after their global launch, as the manufacturer is ramping up their presence in the Indian market.
The engine options for the next generation Ford Figo is expected to be borrowed from the Ka and EcoSport. The Ford Ka comes with an option of two engine options, a 1.2-litre petrol motor that produces a maximum power output of 69 PS and a peak torque figure of 102 Nm and a 1.3-litre TDCi diesel engine that churns out a maximum power of 75 PS with a peak torque of 145 Nm, coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine might find its way into the new Figo, while the 1.5-litre diesel from the Fiesta could be offered as well.
Ford remains silent on the launch of the next generation Figo, as the company’s current focus is on the EcoSport. The American car maker plans to bring 8 new models to the country, one of which could be the next generation Figo. The company has made it clear, their launches will be in the volume segment and thus the next generation Figo is more important in Indian than the Focus or Mondeo. The company could retain the current Figo and move it down a segment, while positioning the next generation model in the same position as the current Figo.
