The Range Rover Evoque is a compact SUV being offered by Land Rover in 5-door and 3-door avatar with four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive options. The baby SUV has received an overwhelming response by the customers since its launch in 2011. The Evoque represented 67 percent sales of Land Rover last year. Land Rover aims to be one of the leading SUV makers till 2020 by rolling out a huge range of 16 new models including different variants of the Range Rover, Freelander, Discovery and Defender line-up.
One of the new models being planned by the Land Rover is the Evoque with a longer wheelbase which can be seen in the near future. We already revealed Land Rover’s plan to bring in a product between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport, which has been codenamed L560. To fill in the gap between the standard Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport, the automaker is planning to position a Range Rover Evoque XL in between. The Evoque XL will be a 4.60 metre long SUV that can accommodate seven passengers. For better fuel efficiency and reduced weight, Land Rover will use an aluminum structure for the Evoque XL. We can expect the Evoque XL to be introduced in 2014.
The Evoque XL is expected to be powered by the same engine options powering the standard Evoque, a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit producing 237 BHP of power and 340 Nm of torque and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel unit producing 187 BHP of power and 420 Nm of torque coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Recently we also heard about a 9-speed ZF automatic transmission to be introduced in 2014 by Land Rover. Apart from the Evoque XL, the automaker is planning to expand the Evoque line-up with a cabriolet version, a high performance Evoque and a mini Evoque to take on all SUV segments in the market.
