Mercedes-Benz has launched a new BlueEFFICIENCY version of the A-Class. One among which is what the German luxury car maker claims is the most fuel efficient car they have ever made, the A180 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY. These BlueEFFICIENCY models, both diesel and petrol, boast a number of changes to the exterior and the hardware of the vehicle to extract the most out of every last drop of fuel. This version of the A-Class will be on sale in Europe from February 2013 and deliveries will start from March 2013.
The Mercedes A180 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY boasts of a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine with 108 HP of power mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The fuel efficiency it delivers is an astonishing 27.5 km/l and CO2 emissions of just 92 g/km. The petrol version uses a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with 120 HP of powerand delivers a fuel efficiency of 19 km/l and CO2 emissions of just 120 g/km. The fuel efficiency improvement of the BlueEFFICIENCY models over the normal versions with the same engines is 5 percent.
The BlueEFFICIENCY A-Class has few changes externally for better aerodynamics as well as internally to improve on fuel efficiency. The upper section of the radiator grille is partially covered, the spring link coverings are more aerodynamically shaped and the car has been lowered by 15 mm. The gearbox has taller ratios and the engine generator management system has been upgraded to run the engine as frugally as possible. To distinguish this car form the normal A-Class visually, round LED daytime running lamps are added to the bumpers.
