Maruti Suzuki will launch the SX4 crossover in India by 2014. With the small crossover or mini-SUV market booming in India, this will be a very good move from Maruti. With the Ertiga MPV getting extremely good sales, the SX4 crossover will add in the overall sales figures as well. Currently the small SX4 crossover is available in Europe but Maruti Suzuki will launch the next generation model in India. The company has a target of producing a total of 1,00,000 units of the crossover plus the new SX4 sedan when they are launched.
The SX4 crossover is expected with a 1.5-litre petrol engine from the European version and the 1.3-litre diesel engine from Fiat currently used in the SX4 sedan. Maruti Suzuki may also use the 1.6-litre petrol engine from the current SX4 sedan. In Europe this car is sold as a sporty crossover. It is available with four wheel drive and may make it in the Indian version as well. The new SX4 sedan is expected by end of 2013 or early 2014 followed by the SX4 crossover by mid-2014.
There are many new products lined up from Maruti Suzuki for launch this year as well as the next. A new small car is expected with Maruti Suzuki’s new 800cc diesel engine in this year along with a new Swift hatchback, a new Zen and a new A-Star. The new SX4 sedan is expected by end of 2013 or early 2014 which will be more luxurious and have many new features. With so many new products lined up plus a small car with a small diesel engine, Indian’s largest car maker will earn back a few sales that they have lost owing to many competitive products from the competition.
