Force Motors, the maker of Traveller minibuses and the Trax utility vehicles in India, entered the SUV segment aggressively with the big and exuberant Force One. Following its foot steps, the Gurkha a best seller for Force will finally get a makeover after a long wait. Force Trax Gurkha comes with the 2.6-litre 75 HP / 195 Nm motor. This engine is BS4 emission norms compliant and comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It will be based on the legendary Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen (G-Wagen) which is built under the license from Daimler. The new Force Trax Gurkha is set to hit the roads by 2013.
The changes in the new Force Gurkha are quite evident with new headlights that replace the earlier version’s rectangular units. Flashy alloy wheels have come from the Force One, and it has the bonnet-mounted blinkers and sporty roof rails. The Gurkha name is no where to be found on the vehicle and they want to get away from Gurkha shadow as noticed in the test model. Apart from these changes, a better finished interior might be put in the package. As all cars and SUVs come standard with air conditioning and power steering, so will the new 2013 Trax Gurkha.
The distinct feature that sets this SUV apart from others is the snorkel placed ahead of the A-Pillar so that it can wade through deep puddles without taking in water. That is beneficial in off-road driving. The Gurkha is a 3-door vehicle, which will compete with the Mahindra Thar. From the above specifications, it definitely makes it a good product to look forward to in 2013. Expect prices to start around Rs. 6.5 lakhs for the base variant (ex-showroom, Pune).
