Ford India has confirmed the arrival of the EcoSport. The American automaker will commence production early next year and will unleash its compact SUV in the Indian market in February 2013. The Ford EcoSport was the most talked about vehicle at the Auto Expo earlier this year. However Ford chose to launch the vehicle in more important markets like Brazil and China before launching the EcoSport in India. Just recently Ford launched the EcoSport in Argentina.
Ford will offer no less than 4 variants of the EcoSport in the Indian market, which are most likely to be called S, SE, Freestyle and Titanium. The EcoSport will be powered by both diesel and petrol engines but the latter will be offered with a PowerShift automatic gearbox. The petrol engine powering the Ford EcoSport is the much spoken about 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged EcoBoost engine. This engine produces a juicy 120 BHP and 170 Nm (200 Nm on OverBoost).
The diesel EcoSport will draw power from the 1.5-litre oil-burner sourced from the Fiesta. This engine is expected to produce upwards of 90 BHP and 200 Nm. The diesel-powered Ford EcoSport will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. The below pictures of the petrol automatic EcoSport were snapped in Chennai by Sid. The picture reveals the interiors of the vehicle, which are very similar to the Fiesta. Ford will offer all the bells and whistles it does on the Fiesta, with prices ranging between Rs. 8-10 lakhs.
