Audi has showcased its Crosslane Coupe Hybrid concept car at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The Concept is most likely to be the preview of the much awaited small Audi Q2crossover. The Audi Crosslane Coupe is based on dual mode plug-in hybrid technology and is a convertible crossover SUV. The car showcases technological advancement in frame design and is built on Multi-material space frame using materials such as aluminum, Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) and Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP). The use of these light weight materials helped in achieving the low weight of 1390 kgs which includes the weight of lithium-ion battery pack, which itself contributes a significant weight.
The Crosslane Coupe is powered by 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged, TFSI engine which produces a power output of 128 BHP and a peak torque output of 200 Nm. This engine is coupled to an electric motor EM1 which produces a power of 68 BHP and a torque of 210 Nm, this motor acts as a starter and an alternator. The second electric motor EM2 has a role of providing electric traction with power rating of 116 BHP and a torque rating of 250 Nm. The total power output of the car is 175 BHP, it has a top speed of 182 km/h and 0-100 km/h time of 8.6 seconds. The Crosslane has an excellent mileage of 91 km/l and also has a low emission of 26 G/KM. The car offers two driving modes; ‘cruise’ which ensures drivetrain efficiency and ‘race’ which gives maximum performance.

The Audi Crosslane Coupe concept seems to have taken its design cues from the Range Rover Evoque. The exterior design of the Crosslane Coupe has a single frame grille, large air intakes and trapezoidal LED headlamps for a bold look, the rear also gets a smart design just like front. The Coupe is 4250 mm long, 1900 mm wide and 1500 mm high and has got a wheelbase of 2550 mm, which makes it smaller than the Audi Q3. The company hasn’t confirmed anything yet but the Audi Q2 may be based on the platform of this concept coupe. The Audi Q2 will be launched in 2015, competing against the Mini Countryman.
