TVS Motor has been steadily losing market share. The 2-wheeler maker was once among the top three but has now declined to fourth spot, which could soon be under threat from Suzuki and Yamaha. While TVS has huge expertise in manufacturing, the company has been very slow with new product launches and upgrades. When the Apache was launched, it immediately captured the hearts of the youth, but TVS never bothered to give the RTR series any mechanical upgrades (save for the ABS).
Now TVS plans to launch a new product every quarter, which means four new products a year. The first of this would be the Phoenix 125cc commuter motorcycle, which will be launched on the 28th of September. The company also plans to reduce platforms in order to reduce inventory and parts. This will help them in boosting revenue and increasing investments in marketing activities.
“We had some issues in motorcycle (segment). We were competing with top players across (various) models. We will consolidate our position in next 15 months with several launches. We will have a new product every quarter,” Venu Srinivasan, Chariman, TVS Motor, said.
Now with almost 6 new products expected from TVS, one can expect a higher capacity bike as well. There is absolutely no confirmation from TVS regarding the same, but we can expect a 200-250cc Apache motorcycle, which could rival the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS. The company is also expected to launch upgrades of the Scooty and Flame.
